Well, USCellular's lack of data services finally is a good thing. Unlike most carriers they don't offer a plan that lets you use your phone as a modem. However, because they do offer general data services on the phones themselves, it's quite easy to do this despite lack of official support. The only downside is the possibility of cancellation if I use too much bandwidth. The biggest upside is that I pay a mere $10/month for unlimited data transfer, and the cheapest tethering plan from any other carrier is $30/month. |

Just read Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom. It may be by some damn blogger, but it's still a pretty good read. And freely, legally available. |

So I go to the democratic party website to see who's running for president, and the only list I can quickly find is of the GOP candidates. I wonder if the GOP site as a quick list of democratic candidates? |

So on today's Colbert Report, Stephen interviewed the founder of Wikipedia. During the interview the message "Librarians are hiding something" flashed up. Not 30 seconds later I check the wikipedia article for Librarian and find this: "A librarian is HIDING SOMETHING" |

So, I hate diamonds because they're semiprecious (but prices as precious) and too many are bloody.
However, I would totally buy a diamond based product if they advertised it as such:
"Diamonds: She'll pretty much have to."

If you wanted proof that Western Digital drives are the bestest, I just retired an ancient WD 10 gig drive from active usage. Never gave me a single problem. I wouldn't be surprised if the drive as around 10 years old, and I know it's been active usage the entire time.

I just saw a commercial on TV for a patent medicine that was homeopathic in nature. For those of you that don't know, homeopathy is thus: 1. Find a substance that causes the symptom you wish to combat. 2. Dilute it to the point where it can't possibly cause harm (often to the point where there is none of the original substance in the solution) 3. In this form, the mix will alleviate the symptom the full strength version caused.
Of course, this is bullshit, for obvious reasons. I'm just surprised that somebody is actually trying to sell this snake oil. I would think that it would be illegal to make any claims about what your shit can do, as the only possible cause of symptom relief would be the placebo effect.

Also, a chem major didn't get this today in class:
sqrt(1/(2aN)) = 1/sqrt(2aN)
(where sqrt = square root)

So, I'm in the market for a new mp3 player. If anybody has any suggestions, of either specific models or brands in general, please let me know.
Here's some things I care about (in no particular order)
Price of $250 or less Video playback would be nice Hard drive based would be preferable I'd like OGG support, but it's not a dealbreaker Smaller is better
Right now I'm thinking I might just give in an get an iPod. The iRiver Clix looks nice, but it's a bit light on storage space at only 2 gig. The iRiver e10 looks interesting, but it's not available in the states, as best I can tell.

Come in to my lair, said the spider to the fly. The fly, knowing it was a trap, still obliged. Someday, he said, we all must die.
